Kanna Ogawa, a native of Tochigi, Japan, graduated from Tokyo University of the Arts in 2016, receiving the Toshi Matsuda Award, Acanthus Award, and Douseikai Award. In 2019, she completed the master’s program in opera at the same university.
During her studies, she served as cover for the roles of Fire, Princess, and Nightingale in Ravel’s L’enfant et les sortilèges with the Seiji Ozawa Music Academy Opera Project. She was also selected as a recipient of the Munetsugu Angel Foundation / Japan Federation of Musicians Scholarship for Emerging Artists in both 2017 (ranked first among all categories) and 2018.
From 2020, she studied in Milan, Italy for two years under the Agency for Cultural Affairs’ Overseas Study Program for Upcoming Artists. While in Italy, she performed Adina in L’elisir d’amore and Musetta in La Bohème.
Since 2022, she has appeared annually as soprano soloist in the “Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony Special Concert” series with the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Ken-Ichiro Kobayashi.
In 2023, she portrayed Glauce in the Japanese premiere of Cherubini’s Medea to critical acclaim, followed by performances as the Queen of the Night in Die Zauberflöte and Liù in Turandot.
In 2024, she won First Prize and the Audience Prize at the Tokyo Music Competition, as well as first place in eleven other national vocal competitions.
Kanna Ogawa has studied voice with Midori Minawa, Ryo Sakurada, M. Guglielmi, G. Costanzo, V. Terranova, and A. Cupido, receiving specialized training in bel canto repertoire.
She is a full member of the Japan Association of Classical Singers and serves as a hometown cultural ambassador (Furusato Taishi) for Oyama City. She was featured as soprano soloist on the soundtrack of the television drama VIVANT.
Her artistic activities also include outreach performances and educational school concerts across Japan.
